Paducah Public Schools – Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract – Phase II
In Brief: The Project at a Glance
Paducah Public Schools implemented Phase II of its Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract program to continue improving infrastructure across district facilities.
- The project focused on modernizing aging building systems and improving overall energy performance.
- AFP developed a districtwide energy strategy that bundled multiple infrastructure improvements into a coordinated project.
- The improvements generate substantial annual energy savings while improving system reliability and facility performance.
Why We Were Called
Paducah Public Schools sought to build on earlier facility improvements by continuing to modernize building infrastructure across district schools.
Many facilities still relied on aging HVAC systems, outdated lighting infrastructure, and inefficient building systems that increased operating costs and maintenance demands. District leadership wanted to continue improving facility performance while maintaining predictable operating expenses.
AFP was engaged to identify additional energy-efficiency opportunities and implement a second phase of the district’s energy savings strategy.
Key Achievements
- Implemented Phase II of the district’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract program
- Addressed infrastructure improvements across multiple district schools
- Upgraded HVAC systems and lighting infrastructure
- Improved building automation capabilities
- Implemented solar photovoltaic generation
- Reduced annual utility costs by approximately $248,000
Setting the Stage
Paducah Public Schools operates multiple facilities that rely on mechanical systems and building infrastructure to maintain safe and comfortable learning environments.
Over time, aging equipment and inefficient systems increased energy consumption and maintenance costs across district buildings. District leadership recognized the need for a coordinated strategy to modernize infrastructure while maintaining responsible financial planning.
Our Approach
AFP worked with district leadership to develop Phase II of the district’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract program, focusing on identifying additional opportunities for energy efficiency and infrastructure improvements.
By bundling multiple upgrades into a comprehensive project, the district was able to modernize facilities while generating energy savings that help offset project costs.
The Work: Scope of Improvements
HVAC Systems
- Replacement and refurbishment of aging HVAC equipment
Lighting Upgrades
- Conversion to high-efficiency LED lighting across district facilities
Building Automation Controls
- Expansion and optimization of building automation systems
Solar PV
- Installation of solar photovoltaic generation
Thermal Envelope Improvements
- Building envelope improvements to reduce heating and cooling losses
Water Conservation Measures
- Implementation of water-saving improvements across facilities
Results: Measured Impact
The project produced measurable improvements in facility performance and operational efficiency.
- Approximately $248,000 in annual energy savings
- Improved reliability of mechanical systems
- Reduced long-term operational and maintenance costs
- Improved energy efficiency across district facilities
- More stable and predictable operating expenses
What’s Next?
With the successful completion of Phase II improvements, Paducah Public Schools has strengthened the performance and reliability of its facility infrastructure.
The district can continue building on these improvements through future energy-efficiency initiatives and infrastructure upgrades that further enhance learning environments while maintaining responsible operational planning.
